Should I Worry About Being in Debt?
Some people get really worried about being in debt and others do not. You may wonder which state of mind is the best as you may be overly worried or not worried at all. It is a good idea to get this right as it could have a bearing on your ability to cope and manage your situation.
Do not Panic
It is really important to try not to panic. It can be very stressful if you owe a lot of money and feel like you are out of control. However, if we get panicked or anxious it can make things worse. When we are in a state of high emotion it makes it more difficult for us to make good decisions. We rush, we don’t think clearly etc and this means that we do not make good decisions when it comes to our money. Therefore, staying calmer is much better. It is not easy though and it is well worth trying some relaxation methods to see whether they will help you. If you cannot do this, find it does not work or do not want to, then it could be a good idea to get someone to help you out. Paying a financial advisor could be the best thing to do with regards to getting the best quality of help, but it is likely that you will not be able to afford to do this. It could be better to therefore ask a friend or family member to sit down with you and go through all of your finances with you and help you to find a way out. Hopefully, if they can help you to identify some things that you can do to help, it will help you to relax a bit more and you will be able to think more clearly and make more plans of your own.
Be Concerned
It is a good idea not to be totally uncaring about the situation though. If you do not think about it, then you could find that the debts will just keep accumulating. Ignoring this will mean that you could eventually get to the stage where they are unmanageable. It is wise to have some concerns and make sure that you are thinking about them a bit and making sure that you are prioritising them above some spending so that you will pay them off. You need to make sure that you are not just spending without thought and not really caring about the debt because then you will just keep borrowing until you cannot borrow more. This could lead to you not being able to afford repayments. If you miss too many repayments you will find that you will get taken to court. You will also find that having a lot of debt will mean that your credit score is not good. This will mean that you will start to find it harder and harder to borrow more money. This could be good as it will mean that you cannot increase your debts anymore but if you have an emergency and need money quickly you could then get stuck. You might also find that if you want to rent a home, the landlord may not be willing to take you on because of your poor credit record so that will not be good either. So, make sure that you are aware of the consequences but try to stay calm enough to come up with a plan on how to repay the debt which will help you to gain control of the situation and you will have more money in the long run without all of the interest and fees to pay.
